Hungary is a landlocked country located in Central Europe. It is divided into seven administrative regions, which were established in 1999 for statistical and administrative purposes. These regions are further divided into 19 counties (megyék in Hungarian) and one capital city, Budapest.

Here are the seven regions of Hungary:

  • Central Hungary: Includes Budapest, the capital city.
  • Transdanubia: Located west of the Danube River, known for diverse landscapes and Lake Balaton.
  • Great Plain and North: Covers the eastern part of Hungary, with the Great Hungarian Plain.
  • Northern Hungary: Situated in the north, known for its beautiful natural landscapes and mountains.
  • Northern Great Plain: Located in the northeast, characterized by flat plains and agriculture.
  • Southern Transdanubia: Situated in the southwest, known for vineyards, spas, and charming towns like Pécs.
  • Western Transdanubia: Located in the west, bordering Austria and Slovenia, with rolling hills, forests, and Lake Fertő.
