Nicaragua is divided into 15 departments, which are further subdivided into municipalities. The departments are named after their respective capital cities and are primarily used for administrative purposes. Each department has its own unique culture, geography, and economy. Some of the largest and most populous departments include Managua, Masaya, León, and Chinandega, while some of the smaller and less populous departments include Nueva Segovia, Río San Juan, and Rivas.
