- Moldova is divided into 32 districts (raions).
- There are also 3 municipalities of first-tier: Chișinău, Bălți, and Tighina.
- In addition, there are 2 autonomous territorial units: Gagauzia and Left Bank of the Dniester.
- Each district is administered by a district council and a district president, who are elected by local residents.
- The districts are further divided into communes (or villages), which are the smallest administrative units in Moldova.
